Name when first joined the clan: Sirmasonking
Display Name now: MortalNinja
Time in clan: Four years, three months, and one day at the time of this application creation (February 11th, 2010)
Are you in any other clans or RuneScape communities?: Negative
Do you hold Leadership positions in any other clans?: Negative
What sets you apart in terms of Leadership qualities?: I have held many previous leadership positions in the clan, including, but not limited to: Director of Programs, Assistant Director of Membership Management, Citadel Overseer (Sub-Director). I am also a clan veteran, and I possess a thorough knowledge of the clan and how it works. I consider myself a creative person, as well as ambitious, and I strive to overcome new challenges all the time. I also will be graduating from High School very soon and do not have to take too many rough courses for my freshman year, as long as my first semester goes decently. Therefore, I will have a good amount of time to devote to this position and spend playing Runescape.
Describe a unique event idea: My unique event idea is to have "recruitment raids" where, as a big event is going on, which could be anything from daily events (sinkholes, warbands, fish flingers, ect.) to world events (new quests, seasonal events, sixth age events, ect), we go in and make our presence known. This is somewhat like those microevents we used to have on the fly, but most will be planned ahead of time to coordinate with the recruitment team. Some could have themes, such as mage/knight or where-the-most-insane-stuff-you-have. It could be a lot of fun and actually recruit people.
In at least 300 words, address an issue or area in the clan you'd like to improve as a Director. You can discuss whatever you feel is appropriate. This can be anything, but preferably related to the Events Department:
In my opinion, the most apparent problem in the clan today is activity. This has always been the most major issue we come across, and it very well could continue to be so, but I think we may have been approaching this from the wrong direction. I believe that a lot of what inhibits the activity of our members is due to the idea of temporal comparison. This is a psychological theory that states that people have the tendency to compare themselves to how they believe their situation was in the past. We do this a lot in Subsistence, with people talking about the "good 'ole days" of bountiful activity and a glorious member base. Now, that's fine and all but we do it way too much, and it could actually be causing people to turn away and start thinking negatively about how the clan is now, to the point where they only wish to minimally participate or totally no longer want to be involved with us. That itself is disheartening, which is my point. This whole idea paints a darker picture than what is actually going on.
Statistically, players are just not looking to be in clans via the internet much anymore. Those who do search around normally do it through fansites or ingame, which is why events are so important. Not only are they an awesome opportunity to play RS with clanmates, but people just passing by could notice us and find interest in the clan just from being there. This is also without mentioning the idea of recruitment centered events that are designed to catch peoples attention and show the RS community who we are. In order to achieve this, however, is to have events, frequently, consistently, and interestingly. Events need to be creative, utilizing the vast amount of options that RS has to offer, structured, planned (or at least somewhat organized), and appealing, not something boring like skeleton hunting. I would also like to see a wide array of events in regards to difficulty or level requirements, anywhere from boss hunting to basic questing or skill training.
All of these can be accomplished with good leadership and a committed team of members who also want to see the clan improve. I will keep a tight schedule of events running from week to week, with each member of the team responsible to run a certain amount of events for that time period. I will also attempt to review and fine tune events to improve them for the future if they were to be repeated. Yet, I do not want to grid everything that we do. Like many have stated, not everyone has an overabundance of free time, nor do we have an extremely active member base that will attend every event that is planned for. So, the exact amount of events per week and events per team member is still to be determined, and could remain up in the air until we find a good balance between member attendence and event amount. I would also like to leave most of the themes or types of events open to the members of the team or to the clan as a whole, because only you know what events you would like to go to, and it would be wrong for me to dictate all of those decisions.
In summary, I believe that the biggest problem in the clan is activity, which is caused by our negative comparisons to how we used to be, and not focusing on how we can strengthen what the clan is now. This can be achieved by recruitment efforts and a reformed events department, with guidance by myself, to create fun events that will ultimately bring the clan closer together. Thank you for reading my application and considering voting for me.
