Stairway to Heaven, by Led Zeppelin, is one of the most controversial songs in the world. It's specifically known for the possible back-masking. Reversed, the song plays a "tribute" to Satan. Listen to them carefully. If you haven't heard the song, I'll put the forward and reversed version below. My opinion:I think it was a coincidence. Your mind will believe anything it wants to. If you listen to the lyrics before realizing what you listened to, you could probably depict it in any way. If you are looking at the lyrics and listening to it, you will hear it clearly. In other words, I think it's a mind trick. Here is the specific part of the song forward and reversed (with lyrics):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwBdpESvSKM

You can do it in almost any video/audio editing program I think. Back when this song was popular though, it was on a record. You can turn the record backwards by hand.

There's always the chance that it was written like that, which would elevate the song from one of the greatest to the most epic ever.

In the 70s-80s the possible backmasking made it so popular that it was banned in schools and a lot of public areas. Music companies even went as far as putting warning labels on the records. That's how serious it was

There was a lot of paranoia with rock music at that time :PEspecially with metal (Ozzy mostly), because it was thought to be inspired by the devil.

This makes no sense. That most certainly is not the song backwards.

The American band Spirit inspired Stairway to Heaven.

The guitarist, Randy California, was given his nickname by Jimi Hendrix while they played together in New York. California was invited to join the Hendrix Experience, but couldn't go to England with Jimi because he was still in High School. I believe Spirit toured with Zeppelin in 68 or 69, and Zeppelin covered one of their songs, Fresh Garbage. Stairway to Heaven came out in 71.

Here's the basis of Stairway to Heaven, the song Taurus, which came out in 68.

But you also have to acknowledge that Jimmy Page was into the occult.

So maybe there is subliminal messaging? If so, hail Satan!

Oh, I remember this. Your mind will fill in blanks with anything when lyrics are put right in front of you like that. Listen to it with your eyes closed and it doesn't sound like anything. Even with the lyrics it doesn't make sense.

Exactly. And the lyrics aren't just non-understandable, they make no sense. "He will give those with him 666.
There was a little tool shed where he made us suffer, sad Satan".

A. What the fuck does he will give those with him 666 mean?
B. The second line there is saying Satan is bad and he made them suffer.

Fail conspiracy people are fail.

jimmy page was interested in the occult, he was just one of those guys that said, hey what the hell is this, *read's a bit about it* hmm this is something weird *keeps reading*. He just picked up a book and started reading about it, he wasn't all for it or whatever. I think Led zepp was like that for awhile they really explored things. Just like how the beatles did with all this peace and hinduism i believe it was. They were a pop band and went into a real different phrase. And most bands that did change was partly because of acid. Most of the time they just read something they found that was interesting.
